- Marriage is a
sacrament which, like all the other sacraments, is appropriately celebrated in
a Catholic Church. Only in a very few exceptional cases can permission be given
for a marriage to be celebrated in a place other than a Catholic Church.
- Permission is not
readily granted for weddings to take place at a commercial venue, especially
when both the bride and the bridegroom are Catholics.
- For exceptions to
this rule, an application must be made in good time to the bishop of the
diocese by the parish priest upon making the determination that the case at
stake warrants such an exception. The application must not be made by the
couple themselves.
- The couple
envisaging getting married in the Church should advise the parish priest six
months before the proposed date of marriage.
- Arrangements
concerning the celebration of the marriage should never be finalised before
they have been discussed thoroughly with the parish priest.
- Before they can be
married in Church the couple must complete a marriage preparation course to be
determined by the priest.
